It was said that after the Board's Council received two letters from District Administrative employees, he wrote to Director Otermat to explain. The employees said they weren't sure but they thought that Director took pictures of some documentation she used in her duties as the Board's Treasurer and they think it might have been some of their personal information. Everyone agreed that it was one picture.
I seem to be a bit confused because all previous legal proceedings I have observed, when a Union is involved, the Union representative comes in and speaks to the officials AND the party that caused the problem. So it wasn't quite clear why the Board's Council, William Wright, was representing the employees, the Union, and the General Manager. The attorney who had been on vacation during that week appeared to give Director Otermat two or three days after he returned to answer his inquiry.
The part that was most confusing was when the Board's Council said to Director Otermat: "We have no evidence you did anything wrong, but I didn't like the way you responded in your email." So what was the meeting trying to accomplish? Were they just putting it on the public record?
The other part of the meeting that left me a little disturbed. Someone (I couldn't see who or even hear the actual statement) asked the Board President, Ray Griffths to stop the yelling out. He threw his hands up in the air and said "What can I do about it?"
Director Otermat video taped the meeting so I'm sure it is on her website www.flushthewaste.com.
I think we need some leadership to bring back respect to this board. I don't like the cross-talk and insults thrown around. It only encourages the anger. This must be stopped. Even the speakers at the podium were having trouble saying anything.
The Board took no action against Director Otermat. They did agree to pay for a service that will provide protection to their personal information.
I'm sure there's more to come. We need to work on RESPECT for everyone inside and connected to the Board meeti
